Vinted description examples: 5 templates to copy by category
A good Vinted description fits in five to eight lines: what the item is and its brand, the size and how it fits, the material, the flat measurements, the condition with precise flaws, and a line on postage or bundles. The templates below follow that structure for each category: copy, fill in the brackets, post.
You get five templates (top, trousers, shoes, bag, kidswear), the measurements to take for each, and the mistakes to avoid.
What is the description for on Vinted?
It does two things: gets you found and reassures buyers. Vinted lists the description among the parameters used by its ranking systems, on its page about content recommendations. The words you put in it help your listing match searches.
Above all, the description answers the questions the buyer has before paying. Every unanswered question means a message to send, so hesitation. Lots of buyers don't bother and move on to the next listing.
Finally, it protects you. Vinted asks you to mention any flaws in the description and show them in photos. A described flaw can't become grounds for a return.
What structure should every description follow?
The same one, in this order, because it is the order in which the buyer asks the questions.
The structure of a description that answers everything
- 1
Line 1: the type of item, the brand, the model if you know it, the colour.
- 2
Line 2: the size on the label and how it fits (true to size, small, large).
- 3
Line 3: the material, copied from the composition label.
- 4
Line 4: the flat measurements, in centimetres.
- 5
Line 5: the condition, with each flaw described precisely, or "no flaws".
- 6
Line 6: a practical detail (bundles, postage, pets or smoking in the home).
No essay, no emojis, no list of 40 hashtags. A description you can read in ten seconds.
Description template for a top (T-shirt, jumper, shirt)
[Type] [Brand] [model if known], colour [colour].
Size [size], fits [true to size / small / large].
Material: [composition, e.g. 100% cotton].
Flat measurements: length [X] cm, pit to pit [X] cm, sleeve [X] cm.

Uniqlo merino wool crew neck jumper, navy blue.
Size M, true to size.

Flat measurements: length 66 cm, pit to pit 52 cm, sleeve 62 cm.
Condition: very good, worn a few times. Slight bobbling under the arms (photo 6).
Bundle discount available.
Description template for trousers or jeans
For bottoms, measurements matter more than the size: from one brand to another, a size 10 doesn't fit the same.
[Type] [Brand] [cut: straight, slim, wide-leg, mom…], colour [colour].
Size [size / W L for jeans], fits [true to size / small / large].
Material: [composition], [stretch or not].
Flat measurements: waist [X] cm, hips [X] cm, inside leg [X] cm, total length [X] cm.
Condition: [condition]. [Precise flaw or "No flaws"].
Tip: measure the waist flat, button done up, from edge to edge, and say "flat". The buyer will double it.
Description template for shoes
[Type] [Brand] [model], colour [colour].
Size [size] [EU / UK], fit [true to size / small / large].
Material: upper [leather, suede, canvas…], sole [rubber, gum…].
Insole length: [X] cm.
Condition: [condition]. Soles [lightly / moderately / heavily worn]. [Precise flaw or "No flaws"].
Original box: [yes / no].
Insole length is the most useful number: it lets a buyer torn between two sizes make a decision.
Description template for a bag
[Type: tote, crossbody, clutch…] bag [Brand] [model], colour [colour].
Material: [leather, canvas, synthetic…].
Dimensions: width [X] cm, height [X] cm, depth [X] cm. Handle / strap: [X] cm, [adjustable or not].
Fastening: [zip, magnet, flap]. Inside pockets: [number].
Condition: [condition]. Corners [intact / slightly worn]. Inside [clean / precise marks].
Accessories: [dust bag, card, receipt] or "none".
For a designer bag, don't promise anything you can't prove. Only mention the receipt or certificate if you have them.
Description template for kidswear
[Type] [Brand], colour [colour].
Size [age or size in cm], fits [true to size / small / large].
Material: [composition].
Condition: [condition]. [Precise flaw: stain, bobbling, worn knees, or "No flaws"].
Available as a bundle with [other items in the same size] in my wardrobe.
For kidswear, the last line often pays off: parents are happy to buy several pieces in the same size to pay for a single postage.
Which mistakes should you avoid in a Vinted description?
What reassures, what puts buyers off
| Avoid | Write instead | Why |
|---|---|---|
| "Very good condition" with no detail | "Worn 3 times, no bobbling" | A vague condition creates doubt |
| "Small flaw" | "5 mm mark on the left sleeve, photo 7" | The buyer knows exactly what to expect |
| "Size M" on its own | "Size M, 52 cm across flat" | Sizes vary from one brand to another |
| List of 30 hashtags | 3 or 4 natural keywords in the text | More readable, and stuffing has no proven effect |
| "No swaps, no returns, no offers" | Nothing, or "Bundle discount" | A negative tone puts people off |
| Copying the brand's website description | Your own words and measurements | Generic text, without the reassuring details |
On hashtags in particular, we sorted fact from fiction in our article on tags in descriptions.
How long does a description take with these templates?
With a template, allow two to three minutes per item, half of it for measurements. Without one, you forget a detail, a buyer asks for it by message, you reply, you wait: the time gets lost after posting.
The real hidden time comes later. A well-described listing ages like the others: Vinted lists time since the item was added among its ranking criteria. After two or three weeks, it slips down the results, and you end up deleting and recreating it to push it back up. You then retype the title, description, measurements and fields, listing by listing.
Example: 50 listings to repost every month at 3 minutes each is two and a half hours spent redoing work already done. Revendor reposts your listings in the background, keeping your original description and fields.
Should the title and description be written the same way?
No. The title is there to be found and clicked: it contains the type, brand, colour and size, with no sentence. The description is there to convince: it details what the title can't say. Don't copy the title word for word into the first line; add to it (model, cut, material). For the title, the full method is in our guide to a good Vinted title.
How do you save time on descriptions?
Save the five templates in your phone's notes. When you list, copy the template for the category, fill in the brackets, paste. Keep a tape measure next to your photo corner: you take measurements while taking photos, not afterwards.
And if you sell a lot of one brand, create a version of the template with the "true to size" line already filled in: you know your brand, your buyers don't.
Frequently asked questions
What should you write in a Vinted description?
The type of item, brand, colour, size and how it fits, the material, flat measurements, the condition with precise flaws, and a practical detail such as a bundle discount. Five to eight lines are enough.
Should you put hashtags in a Vinted description?
A few natural keywords in the text are enough. A long list of hashtags has no proven effect and makes the listing harder to read. Vinted uses the description among its ranking parameters, but doesn't say keyword stuffing helps.
How do you describe a flaw on Vinted?
Give its nature, size and position, and refer to the photo: "5 mm mark on the left sleeve, photo 7". Vinted asks you to mention and show flaws, otherwise the buyer can ask for a return.
Which measurements should you give for clothes on Vinted?
For a top: length, pit to pit, sleeve. For bottoms: waist, hips, inside leg, total length. For shoes: insole length. Always flat, in centimetres.
Can you copy the description from the brand's website?
Better to avoid it. It contains neither the condition nor the measurements of your item, and it looks like every other listing. Write in your own words, perhaps reusing the exact model name.
