Depop vs Vinted: where should you sell your clothes in 2026?
Depop vs Vinted? For a seller in France, Vinted is the better choice for the vast majority of clothes: the audience is far larger and private sellers pay no commission. Depop can be worth it for very stylish vintage, streetwear or Y2K pieces, especially if you're targeting buyers in the UK or the US, where Depop is strong. Here's how to decide based on your items, with a simple test.
What's the difference between Depop and Vinted?
Vinted is a volume marketplace, designed to find an item quickly by brand, size and price. Depop works more like a fashion social network: curated profiles, worn photos, following sellers, a strong aesthetic.
The two audiences overlap, but they don't search the same way. On Vinted, the buyer types "wool coat size M" and compares prices. On Depop, they follow sellers whose style they like and buy a piece that fits a look.
How big is each platform?
Vinted reported more than 23 million registered members in France in its November 2023 announcement, making France its largest market. Depop, historically very strong in the UK and the US, doesn't publish a French user figure that we were able to verify.
In practice, for a seller in France, the gap in local audience is clear. An ordinary item will find a buyer much more easily on Vinted. Outside France, compare the two apps in your own country before deciding.
Who buys on Depop and on Vinted?
On Depop, a young, style-conscious audience buying vintage, streetwear and independent designer pieces. On Vinted, a much broader audience: young adults, parents, brand hunters, practical shoppers.
What they have in common: second-hand mainly attracts young adults. According to the Institut Français de la Mode's barometer, it accounts for 17.5% of clothing purchases by 18 to 34-year-olds in France, against 11.8% for the population as a whole (first half of 2025). So the two platforms are partly competing for the same core audience.
The real difference is how people buy. On Vinted, the buyer arrives with a specific need and compares ten listings in a minute: price and size decide. On Depop, they browse profiles, get attached to a look, and are more willing to pay for a piece that feels like them. The same jacket can therefore sell fast and cheap on one, slowly but for more on the other.
How much does it cost to sell on Depop and on Vinted?
On Vinted, nothing for private sellers. On Depop, check the fees shown in the app when you sell, because they depend on your country.
- Vinted: the buyer pays a protection fee, "usually 5% + €0.70" according to Vinted's price list, plus postage. You receive the listed price.
- Depop: the platform removed its selling fees in the UK and then the US in 2024, shifting part of the cost to the buyer, according to its July 2024 announcement. We found no equivalent announcement for France. Unofficial sources mention a commission of around 10% plus payment fees for French sellers: check the exact amount in the app before your first sale.
Worked example: a €50 vintage jacket
On Vinted, you receive €50. The buyer pays 50 + 0.70 + 2.50 = €53.20 plus postage.
On Depop, if the commission shown for your account is indeed around 10% plus payment fees, you receive around €43 to €44. To come out ahead, Depop needs to let you sell at least 15% higher, or sell a piece that wouldn't sell on Vinted.

Test Depop without wasting time
- 1
Pick 5 to 10 pieces with strong personality: 80s to 2000s vintage, streetwear, independent designer pieces, upcycled items.
- 2
Check they aren't already selling on Vinted: if a piece has lots of favourites on Vinted, keep it there.
- 3
Take worn photos, with a consistent background: that's what the Depop audience expects.
- 4
Check the fees shown in the app when you list, and work out what you'll take home.
- 5
Leave it for a month, then compare time to sell and net amount with equivalent pieces on Vinted.
Can you sell on Depop and Vinted at the same time?
Yes. Just take the listing down on the other platform as soon as a sale comes in, so you don't have to cancel an order. And note that each platform reports your data to the tax authorities under DAC7 once you pass 30 sales or €2,000 a year, separately: we explain what to make of it in our guide to declaring your sales.
Why does Vinted take more time than Depop?
Because volume comes at a price. On Vinted, listings slide down the results quickly, buyers negotiate a lot, and messages arrive all day. That's what makes things sell, and it's also what wears you out when you have dozens of listings.
Example: 70 items live on Vinted, 15 messages and 6 offers a day, and bumps to do to stay visible. Count on an hour a day, not including packing. A seller who leaves Vinted for Depop because of that workload often loses a large part of their audience.
Revendor takes on that Vinted workload: one inbox for your messages, counter-offers based on your tiers, automatic reposting, and sales and stock tracking with your margin.
What if you only sell a few pieces a month?
Then stay on Vinted, without any tool, and keep Depop for the one or two vintage pieces that really suit it. To make sure your Vinted listings get found, start by working on your titles.
