Vinted ID verification: accepted documents, timings and rejections

By Revendor8 min read

Vinted asks you to verify your identity to activate your Wallet, when you reach certain sales thresholds, for a transfer of €1,000 or more, or if there's unusual activity. You send an ID card, passport or driving licence, sometimes with a selfie. For a first sale, verification must be done within 5 working days, before you ship.

You'll find out why the request comes up, which document to send, and how to avoid the rejection that blocks your money for days.

Why does Vinted ask for ID?

It isn't Vinted requiring it for itself: it's its payment provider, which is bound by anti-money laundering rules. Those rules require knowing who is receiving money. The documents go directly to the provider and Vinted says it doesn't keep them, according to its help page on identity documents.

Vinted names two providers depending on the case: Mangopay and Vinted Pay. For you, the result is the same: until the verification is approved, you can't transfer your money.

When is the request triggered?

According to Vinted's help, in four situations:

  • Wallet activation: the most common case, often at your first sale.
  • Sales threshold reached: the provider sets levels beyond which it needs to know more.
  • Unusual activity: for example, a single transfer of €1,000 or more.
  • Regulatory requirement: a rule change can trigger a request even if nothing has changed on your side.

So receiving a request doesn't mean your account is under suspicion. In the vast majority of cases, it's an administrative step linked to your volume.

Which documents does Vinted accept?

Vinted accepts an official identity document that's in date. In rarer cases, proof of address or a bank statement may be requested as well.

Which document to send

DocumentAcceptedGood to know
ID cardYesFront and back, both sides legible
PassportYesThe photo page, laid flat
Driving licenceYes, including provisional according to VintedFront and back
SelfieRequested for Vinted PayFace well lit, no sunglasses
Proof of addressRare casesRecent, in the account holder's name
Bank statementRare casesMust show your name and the IBAN used
Expired documentNoAlmost certain rejection

The rule Vinted sets out fits in one sentence: the document must be clearly visible, both sides where there are two, and not expired.

How long does Vinted ID verification take?

Vinted doesn't publish a guaranteed processing time. What is documented is your own deadline: for a first sale, if your Wallet isn't verified yet, you must do it within 5 working days of the sale, and before shipping the parcel.

5 working days

The time a seller has to get their identity verified after their first sale, before shipping (Vinted help, "Why you may be asked for an identity document").

On processing, sellers report anything from a few minutes to several days. No reliable average can be drawn from that. What we can say: a legible file first time round avoids the real waste of time, which is a rejection followed by a resubmission.

What happens if I don't complete the verification?

Your transfers stay suspended. The money from your sales builds up in the Wallet with no way out. For a first sale, it's more awkward: Vinted asks for verification before shipping, so your order stays stuck on your side and your buyer is left waiting.

Why was my Vinted ID verification rejected?

Almost always for a practical reason, not because of suspicion. The classic causes:

  • Blurry photo or glare on the laminated part of the card.
  • Cut-off corners: the whole document must be visible.
  • Only one side sent for a card that has two.
  • Expired document, sometimes by just a few days.
  • Different name between the document and the profile or bank account (married name, birth name, typo).
  • Edited scan or screenshot of a photo.

Send a file that's approved first time

  1. 1

Check the expiry date on your document before you start.

  2. 2

Lay the document flat on a dark, plain surface, near a window, without flash.

  3. 3

Frame the whole thing, all four corners visible, text sharp when you zoom in.

  4. 4

Photograph both sides if it's a card or licence.

  5. 5

Check that the name on the document is exactly the one on your profile and your bank account.

  6. 6

For the selfie: face uncovered, light from the front, no filter.

  7. 7

Submit from the app, directly with the camera, rather than an edited file.

My everyday name doesn't match my ID: what should I do?

Align everything with the name on your ID. If your bank account is in your married name and your ID in your birth name, the provider may see an inconsistency. Supporting proof may then be requested. It's better to correct the profile name and the IBAN account holder's name before submitting.

Is it risky to send your ID to Vinted?

The risk comes mainly from fake intermediaries, not the official procedure. The documents go through the payment provider, inside the app.

The one rule to stick to: never send your ID outside the Vinted app. Not by private message to a buyer, not through a link received by email or text, not on an external form claiming to "unlock your account". If someone asks for your ID card in a conversation, it's a scam.

Is ID verification a sign that you need to declare your sales?

Not automatically, but it's a good moment to ask yourself the question. Verification is linked to payment. Your tax situation depends on what you sell.

Two separate things:

  • DAC7 reporting. Platforms pass to the tax authorities the data of sellers who reach 30 transactions or €2,000 in a year, as France's impots.gouv.fr states. In France, clearing out your wardrobe beyond these thresholds doesn't make it taxable for all that.
  • Buying to resell. If you buy to resell, it's a commercial activity, whatever your volume. It has to be declared under a suitable status.

If you're in the second case, ID verification is often the first sign that your volume has moved up a level. We've set out the steps in our guide to declaring your Vinted sales without panicking.

What if my money is blocked during verification?

That's often where it hurts. Verification rarely comes up when you're selling three T-shirts. It comes up when your volume grows, so when you have money at stake and are counting on it to restock.

Example: you have a big week, 35 sales for €520. You plan to withdraw on Monday to go to second-hand shops on Tuesday. The ID request arrives on Sunday. Your document is rejected because of glare, you resubmit it on Tuesday, it's approved on Thursday. You've lost a week of sourcing, and with it the following week's sales.

What limits the damage:

  • Keeping a small cash reserve outside Vinted to buy stock.
  • Doing the verification as soon as you activate the Wallet, without waiting to be asked.
  • Knowing at all times how much you've really earned, so you can decide without waiting for the transfer.

The third point is the one most often overlooked. When the Wallet is frozen, all you see are "pending" amounts. Knowing that your margin for the month is €380 and not €520 changes your restocking decision.

Tracking sales, purchases and margin without depending on the Wallet is what Revendor keeps up to date automatically from your synced sales.

Do you have to redo the verification later?

Yes, it can happen. A document expiring, a change of bank details, a new volume threshold or a regulatory change can trigger a new request. It isn't a penalty.

Two simple habits:

  • Note your document's expiry date and update it beforehand.
  • If you change banks, check that the new account is in your name, exactly as on your profile.

What if the verification request comes with an account restriction?

That's a different matter. An ID request on its own suspends transfers. A restriction limits the use of the account itself (listing, messages, purchases). If that's your situation, read our article on a blocked or restricted Vinted account: the causes and steps aren't the same.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Vinted asking for my ID card?

Because its payment provider has to verify the identity of people who receive money. The request comes when the Wallet is activated, at certain sales thresholds, for a transfer of €1,000 or more, or if there's unusual activity.

What documents are accepted for Vinted verification?

An ID card, passport or driving licence that's in date, with both sides if the document has two. A selfie may be requested, and more rarely proof of address or a bank statement.

How long does Vinted ID verification take?

Vinted doesn't publish a guaranteed processing time. However, for a first sale, you have 5 working days to get your identity verified, before shipping the parcel.

What should I do if my Vinted verification is rejected?

Resubmit a sharp photo of the whole document, with no glare and both sides, and check that the name matches your profile and bank account. Most rejections come down to photo quality or an expired document.

Is it safe to send your ID on Vinted?

Inside the app, documents are sent to the payment provider and Vinted says it doesn't keep them. Never send your ID by private message, by email or through an external link: that's the typical scam pattern.
